６歳未満の小児へのOTC風邪薬・咳止めの使用をしないよう勧告（カナダ）

Health Canada が６歳未満の小児へのOTC風邪薬・咳止めの使用をしないよう勧告を出した。
「Health Canada is advising consumers of the outcome of its review of cough and cold medicines for children under the age of 12.
Health Canada is requiring manufacturers to relabel over-the-counter cough and cold medicines that have dosing information for children to indicate that these medicines should not be used in children under 6. 」

製品表示には、2009年秋までに、ラベルに「6歳未満の子どもは使用しないで下さい」などの文言を加えることOTCメーカーに対してを求めた。
「The relabelling of these medicines will be completed by fall 2009, in time for the next cough and cold season.」

そして表示が完了するまで消費者・介護者にガイドラインに従うよう求めている。
そのガイドラインでは、６歳未満の子供には、OTCの風邪薬や咳止めを使わないこととしている。
Do not use these over-the-counter cough and cold medicines in children under 6 years of age.
そしてOTC薬の風邪薬や咳止めについて質問する場合は、医師・薬剤師・看護婦などの専門家にするようにとしている。

Health Canada では、２歳未満の小児に対しては2007年10月にOTC風邪薬・咳止めを使用すべきではない旨の勧告を行っていた。
１９９５年～２００８年で１２歳未満の小児１６４例（重篤なもの１０５例）の報告のうち、６歳未満が１２４例（重篤なもの８０例）であり、因果関係がわからない死亡例もあった（２歳未満で５例）。
これらの結果をうけた格好となっている。
「This decision is the result of a Health Canada review of these medicines, including the input of a Scientific Advisory Panel convened in March 2008.」

症状としては、痙攣、心拍数の増加、意識レベルの低下、不整脈、幻覚など。
「The rare but serious potential side-effects include convulsions, increased heart rate, decreased level of consciousness, abnormal heart rhythms and hallucinations.」
